A brewery Sunday and a Tuesday league start: where to play American mah jongg in Atlanta
A new guide sorts Atlanta's mahjong tables by skill level, and several of them play the American game with the League card.
A September 18 guide on Yahoo Creators by travel writer Malika Bowling lists 14 places to play mahjong around Atlanta, sorted for new, intermediate and experienced players. It notes that the game developed in China in the 19th century, and that American Mah Jongg developed its own rules, including the annual National Mah Jongg League card and the Charleston.
Several listings are American play, per the guide. Crack, Bam, Dot meets free at Schoolhouse Brewing in Marietta on the second and fourth Sundays from 2 to 6 p.m., with a focus on American style. House of Bam brings American Mah Jongg to Gypsy Kitchen in Buckhead on Tuesdays beginning in October, at $45 to $150. And the Powder Springs Mahjong Social Club offers free four session courses in American Mah Jongg instruction.
