In Fort Worth, a mother and daughter open an American mahjong lounge
The Bamboo Room, coming to Camp Bowie Boulevard in late July or early August, plans open play, memberships, and a six-week league.
Kristen Trapnell and her mother, Carolyn Penny, are opening The Bamboo Room, an American mahjong lounge at 6115 Camp Bowie Blvd. in Fort Worth, Texas, the Fort Worth Report wrote on June 3. The space is anticipated to open in late July or early August.
Penny has played mahjong for about twenty years and Trapnell learned within the past year, according to the report. The lounge bills itself as a place to play, learn, and shop, with a retail section carrying tile sets, racks, and mats among other goods.
The Fort Worth Report lists open play at $30 per drop-in session, a $99 monthly membership for unlimited open play, and competitive league play in six-week sessions with prizes. OOTT is not affiliated with the lounge and does not sell mahjong sets.
