A Newton afternoon sets its date for the first of November

JCC Greater Boston has posted its fall Mah Jongg-a-thon for Sunday, November 1, an American Mah Jongg afternoon for players who already know the game.

The JCC Greater Boston calendar lists Mah Jongg-a-thon, Fall 2026 for Sunday, November 1 from 1:00pm to 4:30pm, in the Community Room at the Leventhal-Sidman JCC, 333 Nahanton Street in Newton, Massachusetts.

The listing describes it as, quote, a delightful afternoon filled with American Mah Jongg, friendship, and yummy treats. Prior playing experience is expected, and the page asks participants to bring their 2026 National Mah Jongg League card and five dollars in coins.

Registration is handled through the JCC's own course system, per the listing. No entry fee is published on the calendar page.

The coins are the tell. This is not a tournament with rounds and a clock, it is an afternoon of ordinary play at ordinary stakes, and a community center putting a date on it three months out is its own kind of signal.
