In Branford, both players clubs are full and the season runs out this month
A Connecticut recreation department lists its two American mah jongg clubs at capacity, with the last sessions falling in the final week of August.
Branford Parks, Recreation and Senior Services lists two Mahjong Players Club sessions in its catalogue, and both are marked Full. The daytime club meets Tuesdays from 12:30 to 3:00 at the Joseph Trapasso Community House and runs through 25 August. The evening club meets Wednesdays from 5:30 to 9:00 and runs through 26 August.
The price is small and the description is blunt. The fee is listed at $15 for residents and $20 for non residents, sets are provided, and the listing describes the club as a chance to "Continue playing the game you love with others to improve your game," followed by the parenthetical "(no instruction)." It is play, not a lesson, and the page says so plainly.
Teaching sits on a separate line. Beginner Mahjong Lessons, taught by Elizabeth Santoro on Thursdays from 6:00 to 8:00 in the Matthew Brady Library on the second floor, is listed at $70 for residents and $80 for non residents. The department identifies the game taught there as American Mah Jongg.
