Free library classes claimed every seat in 48 hours in Forsyth County
Hampton Park Library reports its spring American mahjongg sessions filled in two days, and says it added more classes for August because of the demand.
In a June 10, 2026 post on the Forsyth County Public Library news blog, staff at Hampton Park Library in Cumming, Georgia described the response to their beginner mah jongg classes. The post says the library expected a positive response when it announced classes for April, May and June, but did not expect every spot to be claimed in just 48 hours.
Per the same post, the demand led Hampton Park to schedule more classes starting in August 2026, with sign ups opening July 1 at 9:00 a.m. The library also runs a weekly Mah Jongg Open Play on Thursdays from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., a drop in session for players who already know the game, and the post notes a monthly meetup at the Sharon Forks Library.
The library's event listing describes Beginning Mah Jongg as a three week course taught by Peggy Britt on Thursday evenings from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Hampton Park meeting room, a three session introduction to American mahjongg for beginners. Per the listing, registration is free and first come, first served.
Prim's own view: a free three week course that fills in two days is a demand signal a library cannot really hide. It is also the least expensive door into the game anywhere, and here it is being opened by a public library rather than a club.
