For Beginners
A Baltimore library supplies the tiles and the card, and asks nothing back
The Enoch Pratt Free Library's Light Street branch runs Learn American Mah Jongg every other Friday through December, with no registration required.
The Enoch Pratt Free Library lists Learn American Mah Jongg at its Light Street branch, 1251 Light Street in Baltimore, on alternating Fridays from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. The posted dates run 11 September, 25 September, 9 October, 23 October, 13 November and 11 December.
The library's own description says it has the tiles, the official 2026 cards from the National Mah Jongg League, and a volunteer instructor. The listing shows no registration requirement and no fee.
That combination is worth naming, because the card is the usual place a beginner stalls. Most beginner listings tell you to buy the current card before the first session. This one keeps a set on the table.
OOTT is not affiliated with the library and does not sell mah jongg sets. This item is here because a free, card-supplied beginner session is the cheapest first table in the country, and they are easy to miss on a library calendar.
